Emil Bergkvist second in Rally Portugal

This weekend, Emil Bergkvist and his co-driver Patrik Barth, drove their second crally in this year's World Rally Championship in Portugal in the WRC2 class. The competition ended with a second place for Emil and Patrik, who also became 10th overall in WRC together with their team J Motorsport.

- It feels like a victory actually, says Emil.

- It is extremely nice to finally get a podium, we have managed to run without problems the whole rally. I have longed to be on the podium in WRC2, and now we are in a competitive car that works great. I'm relieved now.

Emil, who became Junior World Rally Champion last year, won the Ford Fiesta R5 which he now runs, alongside tires and fuel. In Rally Sweden in February he finished 4th, but has since then not been in the car. Therefore, Emil himself thought that a podium would not be possible.
It has gone too well really, considering we hade been not driving since late in February. So we didn't think it was manageable. A podium was our absolute highest goal, but we aimed for the top five, Emil continues.

- The car where very good the whole rally, the team has been good, and above all, Patrik was extremely concentrated and delivered the notes in the extreme heat that was here. We have kept ourselves cool and not made any mistakes.

Emil has worked hard in recent months to get everything together for the rally in Portugal, and the next scheduled competition would be in Sardinia in two weeks. But because it gets too tight to get it all together until then, Emil and Patrik choose to stand over the competition, instead to focus on the Finnish rally later this summer - where they will be the newly developed Ford Fiesta R5 from M-Sport.

But since Emil and Patrik, after the strong start to the season, are now in a good position in the championship, the plan is to add a competition if they have good medal chances towards the end of the season.

- We will now work hard on the Finnish rally in the new car, and try to get together the rest of the season. We hope that this strong start to the season will give us an easier work, and we plan to be able to add a competition at the end of the year, Emil concludes.
