Emil Bergkvist Junior World Rally Champion 2018

Emil Bergkvist from Sweden is the 2018 Junior World Rally Champion, which is clear after he and co-driver Patrik Barth won the final rally in Turkey.

- It's absolutely wonderful! I barely know what to say, I have no words. It feels so good, we've been fighting for so long. Finally, Emil says just after the finish line.

Emil decided after two less successful years in the four-wheel drive WRC2-class to take one step back to a two-wheel drive car and the junior class. Directly he showed good speed and was on the podium in the first two races, and when leading title contender Dennis Rådström was forced to retire in the Finland, Emil was able to take over the championship lead. With victory in Turkey, the championship gold was a fact.

– It’s a dream come true to win the championship. There are not many who may be, this is a memory for life.

– The last stages were awful when we realized that it could go our way. You hear every sound in the car and thought it would break at any time. But it kept to the finish, Emil continues.

In addition to being World Champion, Emil also wins a very own Ford Fiesta R5 from the British Ford team M-Sport with free tires and fuel for the WRC2 Championship 2019.

– The dream and goal is to drive the WRC2 car next year.

– Right now, I want to thank all who make this possible. Jourdan Serderidis who stood behind and supported us the whole season, Lasse Pettersson, who is very important and a lot of people who are helping us. I would also like to thank Party Barth, Joakim Sjöberg and Ola Floene, who where my co-drivers this year, concludes Emil.
